Davide Bertocchi and Heimo Zobernig are the artists whose works take the form of the seventh
contemporary locus. The site they set out to reveal is Porta Sant’Alessandro, one of the city gates into Bergamo Alta, set in the imposing old city walls built under the Venetian Republic. Construction of the gate began in 1560 over the remains of an early Christian basilica once dedicated to Bergamo’s patron saint. The gate’s original architecture remains intact and today it provides a point of access to the heart of the medieval city.
The interventions of the two artists engage the large enclosed space above the gateway itself, currently closed to the public. Individually, the two installations bring together light, form and sound to create new ways in which space and the community can interact.

Davide Bertocchi (Modena, 1969) trained in Bologna before moving on in the ‘90s to Milan, where he joined the city’s dynamic art scene. He then moved to Paris, where he now lives and works. He has taken part in the Internship Program at MoMa PS1 and in “Le Pavillon” residency program at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
Heimo Zobernig (Mauthen, Carinthia, 1958) lives and works in Vienna. He participated in many international exhibitions including Documenta X and the 53th Venice Biennale. His work covers a vast field: design, painting, sculpture and installation . He will be representing Austria at the Venice Biennale 2015.
