    99 PAROLE CON MARIO CRESCI

MARIO CRESCI, SEGNIMIGRANTI, 2013, BLOCKS OF BLACK LAVA, ENVIRONMENTAL DIMENSIONS, GIARDINI NAXOS (TAORMINA)

SEGNIMIGRANTI [migrant signs] / Intervention on blocks of black lava present on the beach of Giardini Naxos (Taormina), Sicily, made on October 6th, 2013. It’s an intervention born from the emotion of a tragedy that saw nearly five hundred people die in the waters of Lampedusa in the same days when I was spending a peaceful period of holiday. I have marked with white tempera the black lava bodies as if they had been deposited on the beach by the waves of the sea and in five hours of uninterrupted work I saw that each sign identified a body and at the same time it was paying tribute as the flight of a seagull to the upwards, towards a spiritual dimension within a thought totally immersed in the pain of a terrible tragedy. At the end of the intervention, observing the landscape altered by the painted signs, it seemed for a moment that I have created a thought of reference to the body painting of the African world where the white marks migrate from the bodies of people in those of things. I finally photographed and filmed a series of routes between the bodies painted in a landscape momentarily transformed.
